Discover the stories behind the music

From Thursday, May 15, Groningen will be the setting for the ten-day city program MENA, which focuses on art and culture from the MENA region, the Middle East and North Africa. The program features more than 40 activities, from theater, music, film, stories and talks to literature and food. This program, which offers a look behind the scenes, consists of 2 parts:

1) Public Rehearsal MENA – Magic of Maghreb

Conductor Tom Cohen will lead you and a singer on a unique journey through different genres within the classical music of North Africa. In 2022, Cohen conducted the NNO during Symphonic Music from Middle East North Africa. This time they dive into fullness and richness of Maghrebian culture and music.

2) NNO Intro Live

Discover the stories behind the music with NNO Intro Live!

Especially for everyone who wants to know what lies behind the concert! With NNO Intro Live, the North Netherlands Orchestra offers a unique and contemporary introduction to the program. Perfect for young people, students, and for everyone who is curious about the stories behind the notes. Led by Tea Stamhuis, you’ll learn all about the concert, the conductor, the music. And isn’t the question you so desperately want answered? Then just ask it yourself!
