NNO Intro Live [ENG]

Are you going to an NNO concert and want to know more about it? The North Netherlands Orchestra presents NNO Intro Live!

Before various NNO concerts, musicians, conductors, composers, musicologists or soloists offer an accessible and contemporary introduction to the concert programme.
What is the most challenging piece to perform? Why were these particular works chosen for the programme? Why did the composer make certain artistic choices?
There’s also time to answer questions from the audience. In addition, NNO Intro Live attendees receive a discount on tickets for the concert featured in that edition. So come, watch and listen!

Discover the stories behind the music

1) How to Conduct Life – 10 December 2025

The next NNO Intro Live is part of the festival How to Conduct Life. During this festival, young creators, musicians, scientists and artists will respond through performances, lectures, workshops and art installations inspired by the fascinating life of Alma Mahler — best known as the wife of composer Gustav Mahler.
Her story — about love, talent, oppression and freedom — touches on themes that remain highly relevant today: gender roles, sexuality and artistic self-expression.

Programme
18.30: Doors open
19.15: Opening with conductor Anthony Hermus, Cissy Joan and Lola Lasagne
19.30–21.15: Optional programme with talks, performances, workshops and ongoing activities
21.30–22.00: First part of Mahler’s Eighth Symphony
22.00–23.30: Afterparty with Ko Kliko and a special dance performance

2) NNO Intro Live: Women and Composition

During this NNO Intro Live, PCC lecturer Thea Stamhuis will be in conversation with Anne-Maartje Lemereis and a talented female composition student from the PCC. Marcel Mandos, artistic director, will also join the discussion.
